Industry Supporting Industry Tattoo Art Night is held every third Thursday of the month in the hip downtown “Beauty Bar” Las Vegas. Cornerstone Gallery hosts the event with artwork from over 10 local tattoo shops on display along with an open Sailor Jerry bar 9-10 pm, live music and art demos. The I.S.I. Group is a number of individuals who work and support tattoo artists, musicians and liquor companies for a better tomorrow. This is a FREE event.
Studio 21 Tattoo Gallery will be holding an event at our studio Sept. 18th, 2011. Pick Your Poison will be the feature of the event, showcasing their delectable alcohol, soda and fruit infused cupcakes. Lulu’s Pastries will also be attending with an assortment of fantastic pastries and Grouchy John’s Coffee will help wash it all down. Who could ask for a better way to top off the taste buds for the night. Naturally, the theme for the art show is “sweet tooth” anything reflecting sweets in whatever environment you choose. All art needs to be in by the 14th of September, any medium accepted. The clocks ticking, looking forward to seeing the entries.
When attending the international MAGIC convention in Las Vegas, NV, we ran across this skateboard exhibit in the S.L.A.T.E. area. SLATE highlights the newest & latest underground street labels, fashion and lifestyles from inspiring individuals setting trends for anything related to skate/art/surf and music. The original works of art on recycled skateboards is a traveling exhibit by over 90 artists, a project of SK8OLOGY, combining counter culture with fine art. This is a small example of all the boards on display. MAGIC/S.L.A.T.E. is an insider view of trends to come and a sensory overload of creative forces combined. It’s a lot to take in, everything from product display, live art exhibits, skateboard contest, etc. The creative energy of designers and artists is beyond inspiring.
Charlie Spencer, Studio 21 Tattoo artist and owner, spends his spare time creating black and white pointillism artwork. Pointillism, a popular 19th century French painting technique uses small dots of pure color placed next to each other and when viewed from a distance tones appear to blend together. This style goes back to the neo impressionist art movement, Georges Seurat, being one of the most popular painters of this era. Charlie has chosen this style of tediously applying dots over and over with Micron pens to achieve the darks and lights of tonal value desired, creating great detail. In black and white pointillism the two dots placed next to each other create “optical mixing” creating a perceived single tone. His artwork has been displayed at various themed art venues and events including Cornerstone Gallery and Studio 21 Tattoo Gallery.
Art takes on many forms of expression influenced by countless things in our life: music, film, painting, sculpture, etc. Phil Luck, a traditional tattoo artists at Studio 21 Tattoo received this creative piece of art from a client. For those who know Phil, his passion is anything Coca Cola. Another unique and well executed piece to add to his vast collection. Artist: Sean Douglas
Enjoyed the opportunity to hang out in the studio last week with SEEN and Olivia and catch up on the latest in his busy life, truly and interesting and inspiring individual with endless stories. Richard Mirando (SEEN) “The Godfather of Graffiti”, born and raised in the Bronx, began painting grafitti in the NY subways, his influence in the graffiti world was of a monumental scale. SEEN now travels the globe attending gallery shows and promoting his own large scale projects and other forms of art. http://www.seencity.net/
With cannons exploding, beer flowing, aggressive ping pong battles in full effect, the “Salty Holograms” closing party equaled much success. Probably the most interactive art show I’ve attended, Travis Jackson and Ryan Tino were offering the opportunity to blast off a custom made “faux” pirate canon with a chance to land the foam canon ball into an open pirate chest on the opposing side of the gallery. For every sunkin’ booty chest you were given the experience of screen printing a shirt of your own size and choice of graphic to take home. Black and white illustrations layered in a collage effect with vintage photos backed by hand painted murals and one off screen printed shirts, zines, and an assortment of other goodies lurked amongst the plaid and corduroy hipsters. Look forward to seein’ more of the guys work in the future for sure, the guys are always participating in Studio 21’s group art shows and fundraisers. Austin Spencer/Studio 21 Tattoo Gallery
Event: May 22, 2011 – “Heart Wars” @ Studio 21 Tattoo Gallery, Las Vegas, NV 6-10 PM- Star Wars themed art show, raffle, food trucks and Sailor Jerry Rum drinks. Throughout the night teams battled to see who could raise the most money for the American Heart Association. 100 % of money raised from art sales, raffle tickets went to the charity raising a total of $3460. Although Studio 21 Tattoo raised the most money, we turned the trophy over to the next highest fundraiser team, FUKU Burger. Many local, as well as out of state artist contributed really creative artwork of all mediums to the event. Costumed Star Wars figures were available for photos and the food trucks provided a variety of great food. The event was a big success. Their artist’s time and effort was greatly appreciated toward the cause. The evening was dedicated to a dear family friend, Holly Bayliff, who died unexpectedly at 31 yrs. of age from heart complications. Casey Weldon Exhibit
Casey Weldon, works as a fine artists and illustrator, currently residing in California after a brief stint in Las Vegas and New York. Casey returns to Las Vegas for frequent exhibits one of which is on display now at the Trifecta Gallery in the Arts Factory building on Main Street and Charleston.
